Foster
At the Humane Society of Weld County our “Temporary Tails” foster families extend their compassion to provide special care to hundreds of orphaned and neglected animals each year. If you are ready to open your heart and home to an animal in need this is the perfect opportunity for you. Fostering will give you new insight on animal behavior; and leave you with the knowledge that you have made a tremendous difference in the lives of homeless animals!

Which animals are candidates for foster care?
- Puppies and kittens too young to be adopted
- Dogs or cats who need to be socialized
- Dogs or cats that are nursing their litters
- Animals recovering from injury or illness

How does foster care work?
- Animals that qualify for foster care are dogs and cats that are not ready to be put up for adoption. The shelter often receives young orphaned animals especially kittens during the warmer summer months.
- As these animal arrive at the shelter families in our foster network are contacted with details of their needs and the commitment level. It is always OK to say you are not available.
- Periodic appointments are scheduled during their stay with you to keep them current on vaccinations and to monitor their progress.
- When ready the animal will return to the shelter to begin their search for a new, forever home.
