The Humane Society of Weld County Receives Grant from
PetSmart Charities® to Sterilize 500 Pit Bulls.

The Humane Society of Weld County received a $19,385 grant from PetSmart Charities® to spay/neuter 500 Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes in Weld County. The organization’s pet sterilization program successfully alters more than 2,000 pets per year on average to proactively fight the area’s homeless-pet overpopulation.

“Pit Bulls are a popular breed in Weld County and represent a large number of the animals we receive each year.  The majority of the Pit Bulls we house are unaltered and unidentified,” said Elaine Hicks, executive director of The Humane Society of Weld County.  “Oftentimes, the stigma behind Pit Bulls makes it very difficult to find them a good permanent home.  We hope that this grant will help keep Pit Bulls with their families and not in the shelter.”

The program offers subsidized spay/neuter services for Pit Bull mixes in the following cities:

• Aristocrat Ranchettes
• Ault
• Evans
• Gilcrest
• Greeley
• Kersey
• Milliken

Owners must provide proof of residency in one of the above cities.  A state issued identification card or utility bill will suffice.

For only $15 Pit Bull mixes will receive:

• Spay/Neuter surgery
• Microchip and registration
• Rabies vaccination

Surgeries are by appointment only and are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
