On any given day we care for over 200 cats. They come to us from all walks of their nine lives, all with a similar purpose: to find a new, forever home. While each cat's journey to their new family varies in time, our only goal is to offer as easy a transition as possible from homeless to homeward bound. On average it takes the cats in our facility 36 days to find a new family, but it can be much longer for some. Each and every cat here has a special place in our hearts, so whether their stay is 7 days, 7 months, or longer we want our cats to feel loved, and not forgotten.

As many of you have already heard, The Animal Assistance Foundation has awarded the Humane Society of Weld County $20,000 to build communal cat areas similar to our "Cat Sandbox" in the shelter lobby. These types of areas keep shelter cats healthier longer and allow them to interact with other cats in a somewhat natural environment.  Here they will be able to perch, pounce, lounge, nibble, and frolic at their own fancy. Enriched colony living environments give cats an interesting space to explore and play, while still providing the much needed areas to withdraw from the action and hide.

These new rooms will feature "Cats Around the World" themed as gardens, tropical beaches, and a mountain wilderness.  Potential adopters will view cats in a more natural setting which is enjoyable for visitors and cats alike.

Naming opportunities are also available for these new communal "habicats."  There are multiple naming options starting at only $500.  Please contact Allison Bruce, Development Director, at 506-9550 ext. 29.
